Everyone is fighting some kind of battle that we know nothing about. Showing random acts of kindness can sometimes help others who are silently suffering. Share a smile. Share a friendly wave. Say "Hello!". You could make someone's day! :)

You got this!!!! Hi to all my little eaglettes. Spring time has come and we are quickly moving toward testing and eventually, summer break! Please remember to use your Kelso's Choices when faced with a small problem. Kelso knows just what to do if he has a small problem. Do you? Big problems that are scary or dangerous or make you feel uncomfortable need to be taken directly to an adult immediately. We are here to help any time you need it!
For the next couple weeks...or maybe longer :)...we will be giving people in our lives' positive post-it notes. Students are being encouraged to "fill a bucket" by writing something kind to a school adult, a student in their class, and a person at home. Be on the look out for a kind note written to YOU!
Kindness Matters!! Monday, January 26th begins our Week of Kindness. Students will be given a Great Kindness Challenge checklist. We challenge you to perform as many kind deeds as you can in one week! November is often the month that we devote to giving thanks for the many blessings we have in our lives. I challenge the students and families at Iverson Elementary School to think and write about 2 things you are thankful for every day this month. Once a week, I would like you to comment on this post about one thing that you are thankful for. Focusing on the positive things that are happening in our lives often times increases positive things that happen to us. Positive begets positive...so spread the thankful vibe!
The most important part of my job, as counselor, is to keep our students safe. Our principals have asked me to help out with parking lot duty in the afternoon. We have noticed many people leaving their cars unattended in our fire lane when they pick up their children. Remember that the fire lane is there in order to keep our students safe. Please take the extra time to park your car in our parking lot and walk to get your child. We understand that it may take a little extra time but it will ensure the safety of all students. Thank you!

As we do every year, we invite Kelso to help us make good choices when dealing with conflicts. Below is the Kelso's choices wheel that is used at our school. Our kids need to be taught how to handle small problems. Using the 9 choices that Kelso teaches us, children begin to solve every day problems by themselves. As adults, we know these choices and use them frequently. Please help your children at home with small conflicts by talking through the choices. And remind them...if it is a BIG problem, something that is scary, dangerous, or someone is getting hurt, that they are to go to an adult they trust IMMEDIATELY!

AuthorMrs. Ginnett, here! I have been in the education field for 20+ years. I was a teacher at the Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade and 4th grade levels for 12 of those years. I have been the counselor at Iverson Elementary School for over 10 years. I thoroughly enjoy working with the students, parents and staff at Iverson ES. I consider it HOME. :) Archives
